Welcome to the Addison Elementary Professional School Counselor Blog. The school counseling department facilitates student development in three critical areas: academic development, career development, and personal/social development. We work with students in three different ways:
Classroom Guidance: counselors visit classrooms alternating weeks to teach the entire class on subjects such as listening skills, healthy choices, feelings, friendship, bullying, tolerance, manners, self-esteem, decision making and goal setting skills.
Small Group: students who share common area of concerns meet with the counselor on a weekly basis for 4-6 weeks. Small groups are formed based upon the greatest area of student needs
Individual Counseling: the counselor will talk with a student privately about specific concerns or problems.
